Reiki transends the ages and is timeless it is spiritually guided life force energy of the highest form being pure unconditional love.
Mikao Usui was born in the village of Yago on the 15thAugust 1865
His family were Hatamoto Samurai, the Shogun's guard. This meant that Mikao received a very high standard of education.
As a child Mikao attended a Tendai Monastery where Mahayana Buddhism were practiced. At the age of twelve Mikao Usui started training in a Japanese martial art of Aiki Jutsu, he also trained in a the Japanese tradition of Daito Ryu and after a few years in 1889 he received the highest rank of achievement in grappling and weaponry.
Mikao Usui had always been interested in learning as much as he could about religion, he studied Buddhism, Christianity and Taoism and among other things he studied psychology and medicine. His studies took him to various countries such as China, Europe and America. Although he is often referred to as "Dr Usui" and he did study medicine, Dr Usui was not actually a medical doctor but a highly intelligent man who had a Doctorate in Theology.
Dr Usui later held the position of private secretary to a politician named Shinpei Goto, who later in 1920 became the Mayor of Tokyo. Mikao Usui then married Suzuki Sadako, and they only had two children, Fuji a boy and Toshiko a girl.
Dr Usui spent many years in the Monastery studying many ancient texts: Buddhist, Tibetan and Sanskrit. On finding a vague reference for channeling life force energy in an Ancient Sanskrit text, Dr Usui did not have the ability or the understanding of how to use this.
Dr Usui felt that it was his mission to go and rediscover this healing method, he asked a Monk to advise him on how he should proceed with his quest. Dr Usui was directed by the Monk to embark on a retreat on the Sacred Mountain of Kuriyama, to fast, meditate and pray to be shown an answer.
Dr Usui decided upon a twenty one day sojourn on the Holy Mountain. He climbed high up the Mountain and made a camp in a cave that overlooked the city. He gathered twenty one stones and placed them in a pile in front of him and each day Dr Usui threw one of these stones off the mountain. Dr Usui fasted and meditated and prayed every day from sunrise to sunset, he bathed under a cleansing crisp waterfall.
On the last day Dr Usui was looking into the distance towards the sun and he saw a beam of very bright light coming towards him from the heavens, it hit him on his forehead like a bolt of lightning, knocked him to the ground and he lost consciousness.
He awoke vibrating with energy and reported that he had seen millions of rainbow bubbles and small shiny gold sanskrit symbols, as he saw these symbols he was given a name for each and told how to use them, he also was shown how to activate healing life force energy.
Dr Usui had been given the knowledge and the gift of healing.

REIKI
After realising that his prayers had been answered and that he now knew how to activate the healing life force energy, Dr Usui was very excited and hastily descending the Holy Mountain, he stumbled, fell and cut his toe quite badly on a rock.
The pain in his foot stopped in just a few minutes and when he removed his hands from his foot, Dr Usui found to his amazement that his badly injured toe was completely healed and the only evidence that there had been an injury was some dried blood that remained.
This was just the start of many healing miracles.
After a short time beggars who had been profoundly healed of their ailments by Dr Usui, returned still healed to the squalor of the slums to resume their way of living by begging.
Dr Usui now realised that in giving his healings to the people, he had forgotten to teach the people one thing ..GRATITUDE
Dr Usui then thought about and wrote the Reiki principles:

*JUST FOR TODAY DO NOT WORRY
*EARN YOUR LIVING HONESTLY
*HONOR YOUR PARENTS, ELDERS AND TEACHERS
*GIVE GRATITUDE IN EVERY LIVING THING AND EVERY SITUATION
Dr.Usui established healing centers in Tokyo where he created the three seperate levels of Reiki training known today. He taught a number of teachers how to practice Reiki and they taught students of their own. There are many lines of Reiki practiced in Japan from these teachers.
Usui Reiki was given as an enlightenment system which allowed you to heal yourself and others. It was designed to connect you to and synchronize you with the Universal Source of love, light and harmony, until you realized that you are and always were it. The system is a healing method of transcending.
Reiki is "spiritually guided life force energy"
You don't have to be a spiritually evolved person to perform Reiki as absolutely anyone can learn the techniques from young to old.
In Reiki you are not using your own energy in the healings, but allowing the loving life force energy to flow through you to others.
